Dynamic Equanimity 3D Printers Initiative (DE3D) is a volunteer group that provides personal protective equipment to first responders, medical professionals, hospitals, schools, and immunocompromised individuals. Currently, we are designing and manufacturing assistive technology devices for disabled community members.

DE3D first arose as a concept when I was reading the news and noticed the desperation of healthcare workers. Realizing that I wanted to help, as only a high-school freshman, I obviously could not do so as a first responder. However, I researched ways to support my community and discovered that face shields were in limited supply, were only single use, and were not comfortable. Utilizing my skills as a member of my school’s robotics team, I designed a face shield that is reusable and could be manufactured at home using a 3D printer. Through numerous iterations, I designed a model that would meet the needs of medical providers, while also using the least amount of plastic to be environmentally conscious. I believe that health is our most valuable asset, and DE3D supports this goal.

What started during the pandemic, having realized that it is possible to make an impact with limited resources, this project has now blossomed into one that branches into the realm of assistive technology. Through these efforts, we conduct outreach to determine community members' needs and design innovative solutions. We continue to strive to fulfill our original mission of helping those in need, while still maintaining our original mission.

I often think about a quote by Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give,” and I hope to embody this message through the work that is being performed by DE3D.
